This passage of scripture is rich. Within its concourses so much about Jesus is communicated. We are privy to be flies on a theological wall as elements of theology; Christology, pneumatology, geography, anthropology, and even eschatology are unfolded before us. Jesus is having a Socratic discourse with a woman at the well, and inside this discourse we find the themes of Jesus ministry recognition (he acknowledges the woman) affirmation (he uplifts the woman) and inclusion (he invites the woman into a new form of community) Jesus acknowledges us, he uplifts us and he invites us. In this particular passage of scripture Jesus encounters a woman at the well. What we discover about this particular woman is she is Samaritan. We discover that she knows her history and theology. We discover that this woman is for whatever reason is between relationships.
